A Life of Service, Sister Freddie Beasley

A
commitment of “‘Til death do us part,” that she and her late husband made to each other, kept them together for 56 years before his passing in 2004, says Sister Freddie Beasley. Their commitment to put God first in everything; to love, trust, and respect each other; to listen to each other and to have worship each morning and every evening played a role in keeping them together and happy for so many years. Further, Sister Beasley advises that couples should never make a major decision without talking to each other about the decision first.

Born in Arkansas, her mother moved the family to St. Louis, Missouri where Sister Beasley and her younger brother and sister attended grade school and high school. After graduating from Vashon High School, she attended Tucker’s Business College and studied Secretarial Science. Two years after her graduation, she met her husband through a friend of his. Two years later, in 1948, they married. Their union produced four children, two boys and two girls. Strong believers in Christian education, all of their children attended church school. Sister Beasley has survived not only her younger brother and sister but also her two eldest children, the boys. Her daughters Mitzi and Lisa live in the Baltimore area along with her two grandchildren.

Sister Beasley and her husband joined the Seventh-day Adventist church after completing Bible studies with a friend of her sister-in-law who then introduced them to Elder C. D. Bradford in St. Louis. They got baptized by him in 1955. When the White Bakery where her husband was a baker in Missouri went out of business after twenty years, someone suggested that he get involved in literature work. That he did and was soon called to work in the Baltimore area. At this time, Sister Beasley had a good job with the government and didn’t want to relocate. However she took a leave of absence and followed her husband to the literature mission field in Baltimore in 1970. Then, realizing they were there for the long haul, she found work with the Federal Government in Baltimore. From there, they were called, in 1981, to work at the Allegheny East Conference in Pine Forge, Pennsylvania, where her husband became the publishing director. She worked along with him as a cashier. In their work of literature evangelism, Sister Beasley says they touched many lives that joined the church. Sister Beasley is also very happy to have seen her mother and sister join the church through their witness and the blessings of God.

In 1995, Sister Beasley and her husband retired and moved back to Baltimore and began attending Liberty until his death.  On her own now, Sister Beasley occasionally assists Elder Robert Moses, who was influenced by her husband in the work of literature evangelism, by making phone calls. She is also committed to keeping in touch with the sick and shut-in on a regular basis by calling them and sending out cards. Her hobbies include reading, doing puzzles and going to shopping malls.
Sister Beasley’s favorite Bible verse is Proverbs 3: 5, 6: “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Her favorite hymn is “Until Then.” The first thing she plans to do when she gets to heaven is to “See my Lord,” for she has so many questions for Him. Until then, it is her desire to live her life so that she makes it into the Kingdom.     ~ Mirlene Andre
