Conference Vice President spoke for Women's Day

 Dr. Ella Simmons
Dr. Ella Simmons, the first woman vice president to the Seventh-day Adventist World Church, spoke for Women’s Day at Liberty on September 15, 2007. 

Dr. Simmons was elected vice president July 2005 during the 58th business meetings of the Adventist world church in St. Louis, Missouri. She serves as one of nine vice presidents to General Conference President, Jan Paulsen.

Prior to her vice president post, Dr. Simmons served as provost and vice president of the Adventist operated La Sierra University. Other leadership positions she has held include vice president for academic affairs at Oakwood College in Alabama, associate dean at the University of Louisville, Kentucky School of Education, and chair of the Department of Education in the College of Applied Sciences at Kentucky State University. 

She earned her doctorate in education from the University of Louisville and a masters degree from Andrews University, in Berrien Springs, Michigan.

Dr. Simmons spoke for the divine worship service at Liberty where the theme for the day was “Seeking Power From Above.” The sermon text is 2 Timothy 1:7 – “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
