Acts Agenda
The Liberty Seventh-Day Adventist Church
Acts Agenda Mission Statement (Ext.)
We, the members of the Liberty Seventh-day Adventist Church, exist to be witnesses for the Lord Jesus Christ by evangelizing all God’s people living in the western Baltimore area and beyond, as well as nurturing and equipping the congregation for Christian service after the Biblical model of the Book of Acts.
OBJECTIVES
I. CHURCH EVANGELISM
The Liberty Seventh-day Adventist Church believes that evangelism is both an outreach and inreach ministry. In order to harvest the desired fruit and so that our “fruit should remain,” church leadership is committed to the Biblical Model of the Book of Acts.
A. Outreach Evangelism Ministry – The Acts Agenda
1. Liberty is committed to several evangelistic revivals that will be conducted annually. The Spring Crusades will be as follows: (a) a one-week Youth Revival will be conducted by the Liberty Youth Department and (b) Prophecy Seminars will be conducted by the Elders.
2. The target areas will be decided by the Elders (“Apostles”) with the full support of the Personal Ministry/Evangelistic Council. Attention will be given to the concentration of the target population and their easy access to the evangelistic site. Great spiritual preparation (e.g., fasting and prayer services) will precede the outreach effort. Departmental outreach ministry will support the Evangelism Crusades with entering wedge community evangelism activities (e.g., Vacation Bible School).
3. Literature Evangelists will be commissioned first to visit all homes in the target area in order to solicit Bible studies and invite the community to the Evangelism Crusades. Trained Family Bible Instructors (the Soul Patrol) will receive Bible studies from the Literature Evangelists to ensure evangelistic interests before the Evangelism Crusades begin. Community Services, Health and Temperance and Stewardship, et al, will be called upon to serve the communities’ personal interests. Personal Ministry Field Days will visit the homes in the target area to encourage attendance at the public/community Crusade efforts.
4. The organization of the church, the training of the church members (College of Evangelism), and all the preparations for the Revival Crusade’s first night service will be coordinated by the Elders Board. All church departmental programs will give priority attention and support to all evangelism outreach efforts.
B. Inreach Evangelism Ministry - The Acts Agenda
1. Liberty is committed to an Evangelistic Revival Crusade that will be conducted in the Fall of the year as outlined in the Reclamation Mission Statement. The Revival Crusade will be conducted for eight days (Sabbath to Sabbath) in an attempt to reclaim missing members.
2. The Fall Reclamation Evangelism Revival Crusade will be coordinated by the leadership of the Reclamation Committee and Elders Board. Attention will be given to the countdown scheduling of the training of members, the visitation of missing members, and the details of the Reclamation Evangelism Revival Crusade per se.
3. The Soul Patrol will join the reclamation ministry workers in their home visitations for the purpose of achieving commitment decisions for Christ. The true purpose of the home visitation effort is twofold: (1) to establish a spiritual partner – missing member relationship; and (2) to invite the missing member to attend the Fall Reclamation Evangelism Revival Crusade.
4. In conclusion, the goal of the Fall Reclamation Evangelism Crusade is to assist the missing members in achieving a recommitted relationship with Christ and His Church. Baptism or rebaptism may be appropriate, but the main goal is to achieve a faithful Sabbath worship and discipleship experience on the part of the missing member.
II. CHURCH SHEPHERDING
Shepherding is the act of maintaining the care-bond relationship among members in support of the general welfare of the Liberty family. The Liberty Seventh-day Adventist Church believes that shepherding is the major responsibility of every member of Liberty in general and of the Diaconate in particular. To this end, the Pastor will devise an undershepherding visitation program and will encourage a caring concern in behalf of all of its members according to the Biblical model of the Book of Acts.
Specific Objectives
A. Local Church Shepherding – The Acts Agenda
1. The Biblical model for the church undershepherding ministry is in the Book of Acts. Study and training will be conducted and applied to our church visitation program in the hopes of healing the personal (including emotional hurting) needs of the Liberty family.
2. Two by two will be the adopted mode of visitation with an emphasis on
spiritual non-threatening approach by the Diaconate.
3. The goals of the Local Church Undershepherding Ministry of the
Diaconate is as follows: (a) to encourage all members to faithfully attend Sabbath School and (b) to erect a family altar.
B. Care-Bonding Services Provided - The Acts Agenda
1. The health needs of the Liberty members will be served by the Health Core of the Liberty Church under the direction of the Diaconate.
2. The spiritual counseling needs of the Liberty members will be served by the Pastor’s Counseling Core of the Liberty Church under the direction of the Diaconate.
3. The Social Services needs of the Liberty members will be served from the Family Emergency Fund and by the Community Services Core under the direction of the Diaconate.
4. The Stewardship needs of the Liberty members will be served by the Church Stewardship Core under the direction of the Diaconate,
III. CHURCH ADMINISTRATION
The heart of church administration is the Elders’ Board of which the First Elder is the chair and the Pastor is the sponsor. The Elders Board is the engine of the church organization and progress, the clearing house of all political controversy, the educator and guide for evangelism, and the establisher of church spiritual standards. Unity in diversity of mind and spirit must be achieved on the part of the Elders’ Board, for it is commanded by God. “With one accord in one place” is the motto and mode of operation. To this end, the ministry of the Elders’ Board is to transfuse this very “unity” into the life blood of church administration and fellowship. To achieve this goal administratively, the services of the Diaconate will also be enlisted according to the Biblical model of the Book of Acts.
A. “Serving (Administrative) Tables” - The Acts Agenda
1. The “oneness” of Pentecost is in itself the spirit of Pentecost for which all blessings of the Holy Spirit await. The Elders’ Board on which the Head Deacon, Head Deaconess, and the Pastor sit, should model the spirit of unity on the Church Board and at Business meetings in order to encourage the avoidance of all controversial and divisive issues.
2. The Diaconate will cooperate with the Elders’ Board in achieving all of the objectives as outlined in their training manual.
B. The Diaconate Sponsors - The Acts Agenda
1. The Diaconate is individually responsible for the progress of their assigned departments as Deacon or Deaconess sponsors. They are the channel of communication between the Elders’ Board and the departmental leaders and vice versa.
2. The Diaconate sponsors are responsible for encouraging the departments to which they are assigned to achieve the inreach/outreach goals and objectives of their mission statements according to the coordinated activities of the official Church Evangelism Calendar.
IV. TIMELINE
The Timeline for all church activities which will implement the coordinated activities of all the departmental mission statements will be documented as the official Liberty Church Officers Evangelism Calendar.
